Happy Tuesday!
Anyone else psyched to watch a new episode of The Biggest Loser tonight? I’m addicted. Somehow, I’m always crying at the end of each episode! Talk about motivation– if those severely obese contestants can workout 6 hours a day or more, I should certainly be able to drag my lazy bum to workout for at least a little bit! Luckily for me, I got some new motivation in the mail today:
I ordered Hot Bod in a Box by Jillian Michaels from Amazon last Friday, and it’s already here! I’m so excited about this little box, because it’s got all of Jillian’s workouts and circuits from her book, Making the Cut, all condensed into these little laminated (sweat-proof!) cards that I can bring with me to the gym. I need someone to tell me what to do when it comes to strength training, so these should work great! I’ll report back after my workout this evening.
I am very excited to share with you my new-to-me discovery for breakfast: Oat bran! I discovered a bag of Natural Toasted Oat Bran at Trader Joe’s last night, and I was very excited by it’s nutrition info! For a 1/3 cup, it has only 130 calories, 6 grams of fiber, and 7 grams of protein! That’s more of a nutritional punch than the steel cut oats I was planning on buying… so I thought I’d give it a shot. To my surprise, it was very creamy and satisfying– like my childhood favorite, Cream of Wheat!
Of course, I had to make my breakfast FALL-inspired, so I made Pumpkin Oat Bran:
Into my small saucepan, I combined 1/3 cup oat bran and 1 cup water. I turned the heat up to medium/high, until it started to thicken and bubble (about 4-5 minutes). Once it was thick, I added a 1/3 cup organic canned pumpkin, a few drops of liquid stevia, a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg, and a splash of pure Grade B maple syrup.
Then I topped it off with a tablespoon of raw almond butter:
So warm and comforting! I have a feeling this is going to be my go-to breakfast for a while! I bet it would be good topped with a few walnuts and raisins, too. I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly it cooked on the stove top, too! I’m NOT a fan of cooking in microwaves, because I’m worried about what that type of “inside-out” cooking does to the quality of my food. I found an article about the dangers of microwave cooking here if you’re interested.
I better get back to work! I gave into the coffee monster this morning… gotta stay awake and productive! (plus, Peet’s French Roast is addicting!!)
Hope you’re all having a good Tuesday so far!!
