Often, when we are trying to lose weight and we are not shedding the pounds as we all wish to do, we get discouraged and many times give up. Currently, I am not seeing the weight loss results that I desire. However, Dave and I are both beginning to get back on God’s path by abiding by the basic principles of eating when we are hungry and eating only enough to satisfy. We are beginning to rely on God to help us when we feel tempted. I have found that I feel so much better when I eat only enough to satisfy. I realize that sometimes it comes down to the fact that you must leave food on your plate. Sounds wasteful but, would you rather it go to waste or to go to your waist? We have found that when eating out, we should most always split a meal.
Even though my weight loss has not been what I desire, I can see some changes that have taken place as I seek to stay on God’s path rather than my own. I had mentioned diet sodas in a prior article. Dave and I both have cut our diet soda consumption more than half. I no longer feel that diet soda has any control over my life. We both are drinking much more water than in the past. Dave would never drink water let alone give up his diet sodas.
Grabbing a snack of an evening while watching can become a habit that is difficult to break. We have begun to evaluate whether we are hungry or whether we just want something to eat. We have also tried to make better choices when we do choose to have a light snack. To be honest, we are trying to eliminate them completely but there are still times that we struggle.
So, have I had a successful week? Yes, most definitely! Although I have only lost two pounds and I had no additional weight loss this week, I continue to seek to be obedient to God, to try to stay on his path, and to eat according to his plan — including those evening snacks. That is a success in itself.
